As a Data Engineer joining our Operations Analysis and Performance (OAP) department, you will become part of a dynamic team responsible for curating Single Source of Truth data tables, generating and distributing automatic reporting in a modular and scalable manner, leading efforts to transition to modern data and reporting tools, and serving as a center of excellence for efficient data processing and control.

What You'll Do

We are seeking a talented and motivated Data Engineer to join our remote team. In this role, you will be responsible for transforming complex datasets into meaningful information that drives business decisions across the organization. Your technical expertise and analytical mindset will be crucial in supporting various business units and cross-divisional initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Extraction and Integration: Locate and extract information from multiple sources to be used in evaluation, models, and challenge development. You'll work with diverse data sources, understanding their structure and relationships to build comprehensive datasets.
  • Data Curation and Cleaning: Clean and curate datasets by exploring new data assets and collaborating with other business units to determine the best source of information, aggregating perspectives into meaningful hierarchies that support strategic decision-making.
  • Reporting Enhancement: Be familiar with data environments and collaborate to improve automatic reports and analyses in support of divisional leaders and business units, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of critical business information.
  • Innovation and Technology: Leverage emerging technologies and proactively discover efficient and meaningful approaches to communicate data and analysis that fulfill divisional needs, staying ahead of industry trends and best practices.
  • Project Support: Support strategy development and project management engagements for individual business units and cross-divisional initiatives, contributing to organization-wide success.

What You Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience: At least 3+ years of related experience in data engineering, analytics, or a similar technical role demonstrating progressive responsibility and technical growth.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong proficiency in SQL and ETL/ELT patterns, with the ability to write complex queries and understand data modeling concepts at an advanced level.
  • Programming Skills: Proficiency with Python, SAS, or other comparable tools and programming languages, demonstrating the ability to manipulate, analyze, and transform large datasets effectively.
  • Database Troubleshooting: Ability to troubleshoot a reporting database environment, identifying and resolving performance issues, data quality problems, and integration challenges.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail with the ability to work autonomously and manage multiple requests with various timelines, prioritizing effectively to meet competing deadlines.
  • Problem-Solving Orientation: Self-starter with a resilient, solution-minded approach to complex problems, working independently or as part of a team to overcome challenges creatively.
  • Safety Mindset: Consistently prioritizes safety and protection of self, others, and confidential data, maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations and organizational policies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree or certificate in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science, or other applicable quantitative field, demonstrating a solid foundation in technical principles.
  • Industry Experience: Previous experience in operations analytics, transportation, logistics, or similar industries, providing context for understanding business processes and data requirements.
  • Cloud Platform Expertise: Working knowledge of and/or experience with cloud-based solutions such as Azure, AWS, GCP, or other major cloud platforms, understanding cloud architecture and data storage solutions.
