Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Data Engineer to join our Engagement and Retention Data Engineering team. In this role, you will be at the forefront of designing and implementing cutting-edge data solutions that directly impact how we serve our customers, sponsors, and content partners.

You'll collaborate with talented Data Product Managers, Data Modelers, and Data Scientists to build robust data warehouses and pipelines that fuel analytics and machine learning initiatives across the organization.
What You'll Do
As a Lead Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our data infrastructure. Your responsibilities will include:
- Architect Data Solutions: Contribute to the design and development of data products and data warehouses focused on Engagement and Retention Analysis and Data Science initiatives.
- Build Scalable Systems: Design and develop scalable data warehousing solutions, constructing ETL pipelines in Big Data environments spanning cloud, on-premises, and hybrid architectures.
- Technology Mastery: Work with our cutting-edge tech stack including Hadoop, AWS, Snowflake, Flink, and Kafka, utilizing programming languages such as Python, Scala, and Java.
- Data Modeling Excellence: Engineer data solutions and frameworks, defining data models for critical data warehouses and data marts that power business intelligence.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Data Product Managers, Data Modelers, and Data Architects to design, implement, and deliver successful data solutions that meet evolving business needs.
- Documentation & Governance: Maintain detailed documentation of your work and changes to ensure data quality, data lineage, and robust data governance practices.
- Operational Excellence: Ensure high operational efficiency and quality of your solutions to meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and maintain our commitment to internal clients including Data Science and Data Analytics teams.
- Agile Leadership: Be an active participant and advocate of Agile/Scrum practices, contributing to sprint planning, retrospectives, and continuous process improvements for your team.
Required Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you must possess the following core competencies:
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
- SQL Expertise: Strong SQL skills with the ability to write complex queries to extract data and build high-performance datasets.
- Distributed Systems Experience: Hands-on experience with distributed systems such as Flink, Hadoop (HDFS, Hive, Spark, PySpark) to query and process large-scale data.
- Programming Proficiency: Strong programming skills in Python and either Java or Scala.
- Database Technology: Experience with at least one major MPP or cloud database technology such as Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, or Google BigQuery.
- Data Integration Tools: Strong experience with data integration toolsets (including Kafka or similar stream processing platforms) and building and maintaining robust data pipelines.
- Data Modeling Knowledge: Solid understanding of Data Modeling techniques and Data Warehousing standard frameworks, best practices, and methodologies.
- Agile Methodologies: Familiarity with Scrum and Agile approaches to software development.
- Analytical Skills: Excellent problem-solving abilities with strong attention to detail, along with exceptional analytical and communication skills to effectively convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications will give you a competitive edge:
- Experience with cloud technologies, particularly Amazon Web Services (AWS) including S3, EMR, and EC2.
- Experience with real-time streaming data processing and event-driven architectures.
- Knowledge of machine learning workflows and how data pipelines support ML model training and inference.
- Experience in the media, entertainment, or streaming industry.
- Advanced degree in a related technical field.
- Experience with data visualization tools and business intelligence platforms.
