The Role: Software Engineer – Open Connect Platform
We are seeking a talented and passionate Software Engineer to join our Open Connect engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for building and maintaining the critical systems that power our content delivery network—the very infrastructure that ensures viewers can press play and start streaming their favorite shows and movies within milliseconds. This is a high-impact position where your work will directly affect the streaming experience of millions of users daily.

What You'll Do
As a Software Engineer on our Open Connect team, you will be immersed in the design, development, and optimization of systems that form the foundation of our content delivery network. Your responsibilities will include:
- Building Cloud Microservices: Design and implement microservices that handle the critical path when a user presses play—from request routing to content delivery, ensuring sub-second latency and uninterrupted playback.
- Developing Live Streaming Solutions: Engineer systems that make live streaming work efficiently at scale, with resilience to handle sudden traffic spikes and maintain consistent quality across diverse network conditions.
- Cloud Gaming Infrastructure: Contribute to services that are essential for powering cloud gaming experiences, ensuring low-latency gameplay and seamless user interactions.
- Load Balancing & Traffic Optimization: Develop sophisticated load-balancing algorithms that optimize hardware utilization across our global server network, ensuring efficient distribution of content and minimizing infrastructure costs.
- System Resilience Engineering: Design systems that can automatically react to failure, handle internet traffic shifts, and adapt to changes in real-time—because when millions of users are streaming simultaneously, there's no room for downtime.
- Content Popularity Prediction: Build predictive models and algorithms that forecast which content will be most popular, allowing us to pre-position content closer to viewers and dramatically improve streaming quality.
- Data Throughput Optimization: Solve complex problems around efficiently packing petabytes of content into our machines to maximize throughput and minimize storage overhead.
- Hardware Design Collaboration: Work closely with our hardware engineering team to design streaming hardware that aligns with consumer behavior patterns and maximizes performance.
- Cloud Gaming Session Management: Develop intelligent systems for selecting the best server for each cloud gaming session, optimizing for latency, performance, and user experience.

Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of software development experience or equivalent demonstrated skill with a modern programming language such as Python, Java, Go, C++, or similar.
- Experience working in a microservices environment, with a solid understanding of service-oriented architecture principles.
- Strong knowledge of distributed systems concepts, including caching, load balancing, fault tolerance, and data replication.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure) and understanding of cloud-native architectures.
- Proficiency in data structures, algorithms, and software design patterns.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to debug complex issues in production systems.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building large-scale content delivery or streaming systems.
- Knowledge of video streaming protocols (HLS, DASH, RTMP) and codecs.
- Experience with hardware-software co-design or embedded systems development.
- Familiarity with machine learning concepts and their application to system optimization.
- Experience with network programming and understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP, and DNS.
- Background in performance tuning and optimization of high-throughput systems.
- Experience working with global, distributed teams across multiple time zones.
