Position Overview
As a Senior Game Tools & Pipeline Engineer at arenaflex, you will play a critical role in supporting our development teams across all disciplines. You will be responsible for identifying workflow inefficiencies, designing and implementing custom tools, and maintaining our existing engine-specific and proprietary technology stack. Key Responsibilities
- Proactively identify and elaborate on inefficiencies in our game development pipeline and workflow processes across all disciplines, including art, design, engineering, and QA teams.
- Maintain, extend, and support arenaflex's existing development tools, ensuring reliability, performance, and user-friendliness for all team members.
- Design and build custom asset pipelines that streamline content creation, automate repetitive tasks, and improve overall production efficiency.
- Develop and grow arenaflex's proprietary libraries, tools, and technologies across multiple game engines and frameworks, ensuring scalability and maintainability.
- Collaborate closely with Art, Design, and Engineering groups to understand workflow pain points and develop effective solutions that address real production challenges.
- Work with team members to generate candidate solutions for identified problems, weighing trade-offs based on context and development timelines.
- Implement selected solutions and actively support their adoption by ensuring proper documentation, training, and ongoing support for team members.
- Assist in developing and maintaining our current set of engine-specific and custom tools used daily across all development disciplines.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of implemented solutions and iterate based on user feedback and evolving project requirements.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by sharing knowledge, best practices, and mentoring junior team members.
Essential Qualifications
- A strong passion for empowering others to do their best work and a genuine desire to help team members succeed through excellent tool support.
- Proven experience with the complete device lifecycle: identifying issues, analyzing potential solutions, implementing tools, and evaluating their effectiveness in production environments.
- Hands-on experience working with custom standalone tools and developing solutions that serve multiple users and use cases.
- Demonstrated experience developing tools that are utilized by many different game development disciplines, showing versatility and cross-functional understanding.
- Strong proficiency in C#, C++, and Python programming languages, with the ability to select appropriate languages for different tool development scenarios.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively in a self-directed environment, taking ownership of projects from conception to completion.
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Game Development, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with custom game engines and understanding of engine architecture, rendering pipelines, and development workflows.
- Proficiency with Unreal Engine or Unity, including experience developing plugins, editor extensions, and custom tools within these engines.
- Familiarity with JavaScript and .NET technologies for web-based tool development and automation scripts.
- Experience with version control systems such as Perforce, Git, or Plastic SCM.
- Knowledge of asset management systems and digital content creation pipelines.
- Understanding of game development workflows across multiple disciplines, including 3D modeling, animation, level design, and scripting.
- Experience in the video game industry with shipped titles is a significant plus.
