Position Overview
As a Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will be responsible for constructing and maintaining large-scale data pipelines that support advanced analytics and data science initiatives. You will identify and integrate valuable internal and external data sources, working closely with data scientists to define data requirements for the design, development, and deployment of new solutions that meet evolving business needs. Key Responsibilities
Your primary responsibilities as a Data Engineer will include designing, building, and maintaining efficient and reliable data processing systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and deliver solutions that meet business objectives. Here's what you can expect to do in this role:
- Develop Programming Solutions: Create robust software applications that process, store, and serve data for consumption by analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders across the organization.
- Design Data Models and Pipelines: Architect and implement data models and ETL pipelines that efficiently collect, integrate, and normalize data from multiple sources to generate meaningful insights and support comprehensive reporting needs.
- Build ETL Processes: Write complex Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes, design scalable database systems, and develop tools for both real-time and batch analytical processing to ensure timely data availability.
- Create Scalable Data Pipelines: Develop flexible, repeatable, and secure data pipelines that can handle increasing data volumes and evolving business requirements while maintaining high performance and reliability.
- Ensure Data Quality: Analyze programming and processes to identify and resolve data consistency and integrity issues, implementing best practices for data validation and quality control.
- Integrate Data Sources: Combine data from various internal and external sources, ensuring compliance with data quality standards, governance policies, and accessibility requirements.
- Problem Resolution: Effectively troubleshoot and resolve issues and barriers as they occur, minimizing downtime and ensuring continuous data flow throughout the organization.
- Collaborate Across Teams: Engage with internal and external peers, colleagues, and leadership to exchange complex information related to assigned projects and initiatives, fostering strong working relationships.
Essential Qualifications

- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field; OR a Master's degree in a technical discipline.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in data engineering, data architecture, or a similar technical role. Candidates with a Master's degree may have adjusted experience requirements.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of SQL, including complex query optimization, stored procedures, and database design principles. You should be comfortable working with large datasets and optimizing query performance.
- Relationship Building: Experience establishing and maintaining key relationships with internal stakeholders (peers, colleagues, and leadership) and external partners (business community, clients, and vendors) within a matrix organization to ensure quality standards for service delivery.
- Data Analysis Skills: Experience analyzing and reporting data to identify issues, trends, or exceptions that drive improvement of results and lead to innovative solutions.
- Travel Availability: Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes, including both in-state and out-of-state travel as needed.
Preferred Qualifications

- Advanced Education: Master's degree or higher in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
- API Development: Experience with RESTful API development and integration patterns, including designing and implementing APIs for data consumption and service integration.
- Cloud Platform Experience: Experience with Microsoft Azure application deployment and cloud infrastructure management.
- Azure Technologies: Hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks (using Python or Scala), Azure App Services, Azure Data Lake, Azure Functions, Event Hubs, Event Grids, and Logic Apps.
- DevOps Practices: Experience building Azure DevOps pipelines to enable CI/CD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment), Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and automation for data engineering workflows.
- Data Warehousing: Experience with modern data warehousing concepts and technologies, including cloud-native data warehouses and ETL/ELT tools.
- Programming Languages: Proficiency in Python, Scala, or other programming languages commonly used in data engineering contexts.
