What You'll Do
As a Senior Data Analyst at arenaflex, you'll be responsible for extracting, analyzing, and interpreting large datasets to provide strategic recommendations. Your work will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and deliver solutions that drive operational efficiency and revenue growth.
Data Source Identification & Quality Assessment
- Identify and evaluate appropriate data sources across various databases and distributed data stores (including SQL and NoSQL platforms)
- Understand functional business areas and scenarios to determine where specific data is held and how it can be leveraged
- Document business data requirements and work to align data sources with business objectives
- Perform preliminary data quality assessments on extracted data to ensure accuracy and reliability
- Assist in understanding the priority order of requirements and service level agreements
- Help identify the most suitable source for data that is fit for purpose
Code Development & Testing
- Write and develop code to create analytical solutions and application functions using recommended programming languages such as SQL, Java, C++, Python, and others
- Leverage business, technical, and data requirements to develop robust analytical solutions
- Apply appropriate testing techniques including static analysis, dynamic testing, software composition analysis, and manual penetration testing
- Review and validate code using recommended testing methodologies to ensure quality and accuracy
- Implement best practices in code development and documentation
Model Evaluation & Validation
- Conduct model format testing, tuning, and validation using techniques such as Chi-square, ROC curve, root mean square error, and other statistical methods
- Understand the impact of variables and features on model performance
- Identify appropriate model evaluation metrics for various business scenarios
- Apply best practice techniques for model testing and tuning to assess accuracy, fit, validity, and robustness for multi-stage models and model ensembles
- Ensure analytical models meet business standards and deliver reliable outputs
Information Visualization & Communication
- Generate appropriate graphical representations of data and model results using visualization tools such as Python libraries, R, GGplot, Matplotlib, Plotly, Tableau, and PowerBI
- Understand customer requirements to design appropriate data representation for multiple data sets
- Work with user experience designers and UI engineers to build front-end applications
- Present to and influence the team and business audience using appropriate data visualization frameworks
- Convey clear messages through business and stakeholder understanding
- Personalize communication style based on stakeholder needs and leverage rational arguments
- Guide and mentor junior associates on story types, structures, and strategies
Business Context & Strategy
- Provide recommendations to business stakeholders to solve complex business problems
- Develop business cases for projects with projected return on investment or cost savings
- Translate business requirements into projects, activities, and tasks that align with overall business strategy
- Function as an interpreter and conduit to connect business needs with tangible solutions and results
- Identify and recommend relevant business insights relating to your area of work
- Develop domain-specific artifacts and documentation
Technical Problem Formulation
- Translate and co-own business problems within your field to data-related or mathematical solutions
- Identify appropriate techniques and tools to be leveraged to provide solutions
- Apply analytics, big data analytics, and automation techniques to solve business challenges
- Share use cases and provide examples to demonstrate how approaches would solve business problems
- Prioritize use cases based on business impact and feasibility
Analytical Modeling
- Select analytical modeling methods most suitable for complex data and develop custom analytical models
- Conduct exploratory data analysis activities including basic statistical analysis, hypothesis testing, and statistical inferences
- Define and finalize features based on model responses and introduce new or revised features to enhance analysis
- Identify the size of tests, finalize designs, test hypotheses, and conduct experiments
- Perform trend and cluster analysis to answer practical business problems
- Provide recommendations and key insights to the business
- Mentor and guide junior team members on basic modeling and analytics techniques
Required Skills & Competencies
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of programming languages including SQL, Python, R, Java, or C++
- Statistical Analysis: Proficiency in advanced statistical techniques and multivariate calculus
- Machine Learning: Understanding of machine learning models including graphical models, Bayesian inference, neural networks, SVM, Random Forest, and NLP
- Data Visualization: Experience with visualization tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, Python libraries, or R
- Database Technology: Knowledge of SQL, NoSQL, and distributed data stores
- Optimization Techniques: Familiarity with classical and numerical optimization methods including Linear Programming, Integer Programming, and Quadratic Programming
- Business Acumen: Understanding of business metrics, practices across domains (product, finance, marketing, sales, technology), and ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication with the ability to present complex findings to non-technical stakeholders
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to address complex business challenges
- Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and build relationships with key stakeholders
Minimum Qualifications
- Option 1: Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field AND 3 years of experience in an analytics-related field
- Option 2: Master's degree in Data Science, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field AND 1 year of experience in an analytics-related field
- Option 3: 5 years of experience in an analytics or related field
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Data Science, Machine Learning, Computer Science, or Information Technology
- Experience with optimization models and operations research
- Strong background in applied mathematics, econometrics, or statistics
- Completion of one or more certifications in Python, Spark, Scala, or R
- Experience with open-source frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch
- Demonstrated experience with big data technologies and distributed computing
- Knowledge of cloud platforms and data engineering practices
