Career Group is a mission-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to helping first-generation college students from low-income backgrounds. They are seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to lead HR operations, support organizational initiatives, and partner closely with leadership during an exciting period of growth.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and HR best practices
- Lead and support performance management processes, including employee onboarding, introductory reviews, and annual performance evaluations
- Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives
- Partner with managers on employee relations matters, performance concerns, and staffing needs while ensuring compliance with organizational policies and collective bargaining agreements
- Manage HR systems, personnel records, and documentation, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality
- Monitor HR metrics and key performance indicators, providing recommendations for continuous improvement
- Champion employee engagement and wellness initiatives through surveys, meetings, and ongoing feedback
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding while supervising the HR Coordinator throughout the employee lifecycle
- Present HR updates and policy changes during staff and leadership meetings
- Collaborate with Finance to support payroll processes and oversee HR and Information Systems budgets
- Assist with operational needs as needed, including office administration and maintaining a safe and welcoming workplace
- Contribute to special projects and organizational initiatives with an "all hands on deck" mindset
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- 5+ years of progressive Human Resources experience
- Strong knowledge of California employment law and HR compliance
- Proven project management and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Experience managing budgets and HR programs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of an organization
- Proficiency with Google Workspace (G Suite), macOS, and HR systems
- Collaborative, proactive, and adaptable with a solutions-oriented mindset
- HR certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, or equivalent)
- Experience working in a nonprofit and/or unionized environment
