JerseySTEM is a mission-driven professional network dedicated to improving access to STEM education for underserved middle school girls in New Jersey. The Data Analytics Engineer role focuses on data preparation and front-end business intelligence, requiring collaboration to create operational dashboards and optimize data processing for reporting.
Responsibilities
- Clean, aggregate, and structure raw operational data related to schools, colleges, and corporate partners
- Design, develop, and maintain high-performing dashboards and visual reports using our standard toolset (Looker for now) to identify key trends and patterns
- Write clean, optimized SQL queries and manage database view configurations to ensure frontend reporting sheets refresh smoothly, rapidly, and accurately
- Partner with team members to gather operational requirements, translate complex tracking metrics into intuitive layouts, and help drive data-backed organizational decisions
- Implement rigorous validation checks to ensure dashboard numbers consistently align with actual system records
- Contribute to internal documentation detailing data processing procedures to maintain team-wide consistency
Skills
- Minimum six-month commitment of approximately six flexible hours per week
- $100 refundable deposit, returned after six months of active membership (K–12 educators, retirees, veterans, interns, and students are exempt from the deposit)
- Solid proficiency in relational databases and visual analytics platforms (specifically MySQL and Looker Studio)
- Strong mastery of writing, optimization, and troubleshooting of complex SQL queries to manipulate, aggregate, and join disparate data tables
- A strong analytical mindset with the ability to work effectively in a team environment, turning raw system numbers into clear, readable, and intuitive visual layouts for team leadership
- Comfortable navigating and utilizing Jira for task tracking and Google Workspace for documentation and collaboration
- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline) or equivalent practical professional experience
- Genuine passion for educational equity, youth development, and contributing to closing the gender gap in STEM fields
- Familiarity with Python or R for data analysis
- Prior experience with structured data research or data documentation
