NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the National Park Service (NPS). These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad array of other professional skills that support the National Park Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP). Assist the National Capital Region’s NHL Program update its NHL documentation for Revolutionary-War-era designated properties. This will advance the NHL Program’s and the National Park Service’s 250th Commemoration goals by updating, correcting, and expanding the histories that are enshrined in our nation’s National Historic Landmarks. • Plan and conduct historical research for planning documents, including research designs, National Historic Landmark nominations, and interpretive tools 20% Prepare historic property documentation, specifically to updated National Historic Landmark nominations. 20% • Recommend, plan for, and execute historical investigations required to meet National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), National Park Service (NPS) guidelines, and the research needs of the program. 20% • Consult with cultural resources professionals, historians, and community representatives to keep informed of new developments, research, etc. Evaluate pertinent professional literature and provide recommendations to management. 20% • Write research studies, reports, and evaluations in manuscript format at a level acceptable for professional publications. Writing skills should express thoughts and present data clearly and develop ideas in logical sequence applying professional techniques and methods of the history discipline. 20%
