Position Overview
The Flight Operations Performance Engineer is responsible for maintaining and analyzing flight performance data, developing and maintaining aircraft performance systems, and ensuring compliance with federal aviation regulations. This role requires a deep understanding of aircraft performance limitations, weight and balance calculations, and navigation database management. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for aviation safety and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain Departure and Landing Performance Data: You will be responsible for keeping accurate and up-to-date performance data including obstacle data, one-engine-inoperative (OEI) procedures, and minimum equipment list (MEL) performance penalties for all aircraft in our fleet.
- Develop and Maintain SCAP Modules: Create and maintain Standardized Computer Aircraft Performance (SCAP) modules and interfaces, ensuring seamless integration with our operational systems and providing accurate performance calculations for flight planning.
- Vendor Management: Work collaboratively with third-party vendors to maintain company Weight & Balance (W&B) and performance systems, ensuring data accuracy and system reliability while managing vendor relationships effectively.
- Manual and Procedure Oversight: Provide comprehensive oversight of company Flight Operations manuals and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices while identifying areas for improvement.
- Weight and Balance Support: Support Maintenance and Flight Operations teams in weight and balance calculations and tasks, providing technical expertise and guidance for complex loading scenarios.
- RNAV Procedure Development: Create and maintain company Required Navigation Performance (RNAV) visual procedures, ensuring all approaches meet safety and regulatory standards.
- Navigation Database Management: Maintain oversight of company navigation databases and flight procedures, ensuring currency and accuracy of all navigational data.
- Flight Crew Collaboration: Liaise with flight crew members to identify ways of improving company policies, procedures, and operational efficiency based on real-world flight experience and feedback.
- Aircraft Performance Analysis: Utilize computer-based tools to analyze aircraft performance for all phases of flight, from takeoff to landing, and provide recommendations for optimization.
- Subject Matter Expert for Safety: Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for safety investigations, contributing to incident analysis and safety improvement initiatives.
- Sustainability Initiatives: Aid in the execution of eco-friendliness measures and represent Flight Activities in the Fuel Governing Panel, contributing to our environmental sustainability goals.
- Flight Planning Systems: Loan expertise to flight planning systems and facilities, ensuring our operations have the technical support needed for safe and efficient flight operations.
- Customer Service Excellence: Model arenaflex's customer care standards in all activities and while providing guidance to other team members.
Essential Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you must meet the following requirements:
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field is required. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- Work Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in aircraft operational efficiency, demonstrating practical knowledge of performance analysis and aviation operations.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong capability with Microsoft Office software and knowledge of programming languages including C#, Visual C, Visual Basic, and FORTRAN for analysis and system development.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Thorough understanding of 14 CFR Parts 25 and 121 Aircraft Performance Limitations and Requirements, demonstrating familiarity with federal aviation regulations.
- Aircraft Specific Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of A320/B737 family aircraft weight and balance procedures and systems.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive working relationships across departments.
- Project Management: Demonstrated experience in project management, including planning, execution, and delivery of technical projects.
- Vendor Management: Experience in managing third-party vendors and contractors.
- Technical Documentation: Understanding of aircraft flight envelopes and abbreviations per FAA AC 120-27.
- Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Act of 1986.
- Background Check: Must pass a Criminal Background investigation.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications will give you a competitive edge:
- Pilot's License: A valid pilot's license or flight experience is highly desirable and would provide valuable perspective in this role.
- Advanced Degrees: Master's degree in aerospace engineering or related field.
- Additional Certifications: FAA dispatcher certificate or additional technical certifications in aircraft performance.
- Fleet-Specific Experience: Experience with additional aircraft types beyond A320/B737 families.
