Position Overview
We are currently seeking a full-time Pharmacist to provide compassionate medication counseling, clinical healthcare services, and exceptional patient support at our Houston location. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe and accurate compounding, dispensing, review, and verification of prescribed medications in compliance with all federal and state regulations, company policies, and industry best practices.
This role offers the opportunity to deliver preventive and clinical healthcare services, including vaccinations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcome management. You'll be instrumental in supporting the pharmacy's operational efficiency while contributing to financial performance, inventory management, and enhanced patient experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Experience and Engagement
- Greet patients warmly and provide dedicated assistance with products and services to ensure a positive and welcoming pharmacy experience.
- Resolve patient concerns promptly and professionally, responding to questions to guarantee exceptional patient satisfaction and loyalty.
- Model and demonstrate outstanding customer service best practices, including positive interpersonal habits such as eye contact, courtesy, and attentiveness that reflect arenaflex service values.
- Anticipate patient needs and proactively offer services that enhance the overall healthcare experience, including medication counseling, prescription management, and drug therapy reviews.
- Support efforts to elevate patient experience by increasing awareness of healthcare services offered through arenaflex, including patient consultations, medication therapy management, and clinical services like vaccinations and diagnostic testing.
- Participate in community events and outreach initiatives that reflect the unique communities we serve, as directed by the Pharmacy Manager, Healthcare Lead, or District Manager.
Pharmacy Operations and Medication Management
- Provide comprehensive medication counseling to patients, explaining usage instructions, side effects, drug interactions, contraindications, patient information privacy, generic alternatives, cost-effective medications, and over-the-counter products.
- Refer patients to medical providers as needed to ensure medications are taken correctly, health needs are addressed, and service satisfaction is achieved.
- Perform essential pharmacist duties including medication compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and comprehensive medication management.
- Review, interpret, and accurately dispense prescribed medications when required by duty, ensuring precision and compliance at all times.
- Ensure the pharmacy operates in full compliance with applicable regulations, company policies, and established standards.
- Support the Pharmacy Manager in establishing procedures that promote efficient workflow, including assigning roles, scheduling activities, and incorporating team suggestions for continuous improvement.
- Responsible for pharmacy opening and closing procedures, as well as shift change responsibilities.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of controlled substance laws and ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations when dispensing medications.
- Stay current with pharmacy system technology, including workflow, prescription fulfillment, billing, clinical documentation, training, inventory management, and point-of-sale operations.
Insurance and Clinical Support
- Ensure accurate processing of insurance claims to resolve patient issues and prevent payment rejections, including follow-up with insurance companies and healthcare providers.
- Participate in third-party audits and maintain compliance with all billing requirements.
- Contact clinical providers' offices to clarify prescriptions, dosages, refills, interactions, and allergies, proposing alternative medications when appropriate and addressing provider questions.
- Administer clinical and health services such as vaccinations, diagnostic testing, disease state management, and other healthcare offerings.
Performance Analysis and Community Relations
- Support the Pharmacy Manager in analyzing performance data, including pharmacy financials, customer service metrics, and policy implementation for asset protection and inventory management.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with the local medical community, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers.
- Participate in community outreach activities to promote the pharmacy business, create learning opportunities, and contribute to healthier lives through better health awareness.
- Collaborate with centralized support teams for patient enrollment, exception resolution, and problem-solving. In virtual environments, conduct virtual product reviews following specific company procedures and guidelines.
Team Leadership and Development
- Support the Pharmacy Manager with staff hiring and training initiatives.
- Establish clear performance expectations for the pharmacy team, monitor progress, recognize achievements, and foster a shared vision for success.
- Promote teamwork and motivate colleagues by setting expectations, tracking performance, and encouraging professional growth.
Continuous Learning and Professional Development
- Maintain current knowledge and required licensing, credentials, or certifications as established by federal and state regulations to provide clinical services.
- Stay updated on pharmacy and healthcare developments by reviewing industry publications, company communications, and emerging best practices in retail pharmacy and management.
- Pursue necessary certifications, continuing education credits, and training, including learning modules as required by the organization.
- Seek professional development opportunities by monitoring personal performance, requesting constructive feedback, and utilizing the Pharmacy Manager and District Manager as mentors.
- Support the Pharmacy Manager and District Manager by communicating relevant corporate health and wellness services and procedure information to pharmacy staff.
Essential Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD degree from an accredited educational institution.
- Licensure: Current pharmacist licensure in the state(s) within the assigned region.
- Experience: Demonstrated experience performing prescription dispensing activities with strong knowledge of relevant state and federal controlled substance laws.
- Certification: Certified Immunizer or willingness to become certified within 90 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a pharmacist in a retail setting, including prescription filling and verification, records and legal compliance, pharmacy operations, pharmacy software and technology systems, and insurance processing.
- Strong background in clinical patient care and medication therapy management.
- Experience with community outreach and healthcare education programs.
- Leadership experience in pharmacy operations or team management.
