Position Overview
We are seeking a talented and motivated Data Scientist – Real World Evidence (RWE) Research Specialist to join our Clinical Data Science team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for generating high-quality real-world evidence through advanced research methodologies and innovative approaches in the clinical trials space. You will serve as a vital member of our Strategic Initiatives group, working to impact decision-making both internally and externally through the use of creative data science and technology.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to conduct sophisticated data analysis that addresses critical business questions while contributing to meaningful advancements in healthcare. You will report directly to the Chief of Clinical Data Science and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver actionable insights from real-world, clinical, and other data sources.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Mining and Preparation: Mine raw datasets to deliver normalized, analysis-ready patient cohorts from in-house data resources or licensed platforms, analyze and interpret results, and help shape comprehensive analysis strategies.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with various members of the arenaflex Clinical Trial team to deliver meaningful insights from real-world, clinical, and other data sources to support biopharmaceutical RWE and clinical trial requests. Potential projects include analysis of unmet needs, safe and effective treatments in specific disease states, treatment patterns, and healthcare economic burden and cost-effectiveness modeling.
- Data Management: Clean, transform, and store data into an integrated data lake for future analysis and broader team utilization, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
- Statistical Analysis: Perform data mining and statistical analysis to analyze RWE/RWD to discover new insights regarding patient populations and treatment outcomes, utilizing advanced statistical methodologies.
- Capability Development: Support the development of real-world data, analytics, and platform capabilities, applying advanced analytics and tools to address scientific inquiries from biopharmaceutical organizations.
- Research Study Execution: Collaborate on the design and execution of outcomes research studies, ensuring methodological rigor and scientific validity.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure high-quality, rigorous, and readily interpretable outputs from RWE reviews and investigations, maintaining the highest standards of scientific excellence.
- Reporting and Visualization: Build dashboards, analyses, and reports for both internal and external use, effectively communicating complex findings to diverse stakeholders.
- Vendor Assessment: Conduct due diligence on new real-world data providers and vendors, driving RWD quality assessments to inform project decisions and ensure data reliability.
Essential Qualifications
- Statistical Expertise: Experience in designing and executing robust and reproducible statistical analyses in the context of epidemiology and observational research with healthcare data. Strong foundation in study design, statistical methodology, and research best practices.
- Statistical Techniques: Knowledge of common statistical testing techniques including generalized linear models, clustering and classification, decision trees, unsupervised learning, time series analysis, and survival analysis. Proficiency in applying these methods to real-world healthcare datasets.
- Large-Scale Data Handling: Experience processing large data from multiple data sources, with the ability to manage, clean, and transform high-volume datasets efficiently.
- Data Privacy Compliance: Experience handling protected patient health information (PHI) with strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and other privacy requirements.
- Business Intelligence Tools: Knowledge of at least one of the following: Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, Spotfire, or other BI and insight tools for data visualization and reporting.
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as statistics, biostatistics, data science, epidemiology, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Degree: PhD or Master's degree in statistics/biostatistics, computer science, mathematics, systems engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
- Healthcare Data Expertise: Proficiency in EMR/Health IT systems, disease registries, and insurance claims databases, with understanding of the unique characteristics and analytical considerations of each data source.
- Clinical Data Standards: Expertise in clinical data standards, clinical terminologies, and controlled vocabularies used in healthcare data and ontologies, including ICD-9/10 and ReadCode.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Experience in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) as well as regulatory compliance guidelines for real-world evidence studies or clinical trials (e.g., ISO, MDD/MDR, CFR).
- Innovative Data Collection: Experience working with alternative data sources and alternative methods for clinical data collection, especially those enabled by technology platforms and/or solutions.
- Advanced Statistical Methods: Experience with experimental design, Bayesian modeling, sequential data, and computational statistics.
- Machine Learning: Understanding of statistics and machine learning methods, with the ability to continuously self-learn both technical and non-technical skills.
