About The Position: Director of Data Analytics
The Director of Data Analytics is a pivotal leadership role within our Store Automation and Innovation team. You'll be responsible for developing a comprehensive suite of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that measure the effectiveness of our strategic initiatives. This role goes beyond traditional analytics—you'll define critical measurements, lead the development of robust data pipelines, and create dynamic dashboards that distribute these metrics across the organization.
You'll report directly to the Senior Vice President of Store Innovation and Automation, working closely with executive leadership to translate data into strategic advantage. This position is based in Bentonville, Arkansas, offering you the chance to work at the heart of retail innovation while collaborating with some of the brightest minds in the industry.
What You'll Do
As our Director of Data Analytics, you'll be at the forefront of arenaflex's data-driven transformation. Your responsibilities will span the full analytics lifecycle, from identifying data sources to presenting actionable insights to C-suite executives. Here's what you can expect:
- Data Source Identification & Management: You'll leverage your deep understanding of business domains to identify relevant data sources. This includes understanding data categories, where data is stored, business data requirements, database technologies, and ensuring exceptional data quality across all initiatives.
- Business Problem Analysis: You'll dive deep into business challenges within your domain, questioning assumptions to identify root causes. You'll recommend approaches to solve complex business problems and establish meaningful expectations based on established progress guidelines and key metrics.
- Strategic Business Case Evaluation: Evaluate proposed business cases for projects and initiatives. Translate business requirements into strategic approaches, align your team with overall business strategy, and execute against defined expectations while maintaining flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
- Data Visualization & Storytelling: Identify and recommend the most suitable visualization tools based on context. Define application designs based on client requirements, build compelling narratives from data, present to and influence diverse audiences using appropriate data visualization techniques, and adapt your communication style to resonate with various stakeholders.
- Strategic Direction & Leadership: Provide overall direction by analyzing business objectives and customer needs. This includes developing, delivering, building support for, and implementing business processes, plans, and practices. You'll analyze costs and estimates, integrate findings into business strategies, and determine and support resource requirements.
- Community & Partnership Development: Create and leverage internal and external networks and organizations. Lead strategic community engagement and involvement initiatives while supporting partners—all while upholding arenaflex's core values of integrity and ethics.
- Team Leadership & Development: Lead and mentor a team of analysts, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous learning. Coach team members on best practices in data analysis, visualization, and strategic thinking.
- Dashboard & Report Development: Build comprehensive dashboards and reports that aggregate data from multiple sources, providing holistic views of business performance and trends.

Essential Qualifications
- Technical Proficiency: Strong capability in SQL and Python, with the ability to write efficient queries and develop robust analytical scripts. Experience with big data tools such as Hive is essential for handling large-scale data operations.
- Visualization Expertise: Proficiency with dashboarding tools like Looker, Tableau, or similar platforms. Experience with scheduling and workflow tools such as Airflow, Prefect, or equivalent systems for orchestrating data pipelines.
- Communication Skills: The ability to explain complex metrics and data concepts to executives in clear, concise terms. You must translate technical findings into business-impact narratives that drive decision-making.
- Business Translation: Capacity to connect data details with their impact on the business, demonstrating how analytical insights translate into measurable outcomes.
- Metric Development: Experience developing new metrics to track business impact, including defining measurement criteria, establishing baselines, and setting targets.
- Team Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading and developing teams of analysts, with a track record of building high-performing analytics functions.
- Cross-Functional Reporting: Experience building dashboards and reports that aggregate data from various sources, creating unified views of business performance.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field (Computer Science, Statistics, Business Analytics, or equivalent practical experience).
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Statistics, Data Science, or related quantitative field
- Experience with machine learning and data science methodologies
- Background in retail analytics or consumer goods industry
- Knowledge of cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Experience with A/B testing and experimental design
- Familiarity with ETL processes and data warehousing concepts
