Position Overview
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Cyber Security Specialist Intern to join our dynamic start-up team. In this role, you will work closely with the IT department to ensure the security and integrity of our systems, while also supporting the coordination and technical needs of our internship program. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain real-world experience in cyber security within a fast-paced, innovative environment.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in monitoring and managing the security of network systems, servers, and endpoints.
Support the IT team in identifying, analyzing, and resolving security threats and vulnerabilities.
Help implement security protocols and best practices for internal systems and the internship program.
Participate in the documentation of IT security procedures and incident response actions.
Provision and de-provision access to company resources.
Attend onboarding meetings to provide new interns access to resources.
Further develop and evolve internal training, awareness documentation, and courses.
Audit access control logs and groups to ensure proper levels of access.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Currently pursuing a degree in Cyber Security, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
Foundational knowledge of cyber security principles, threats, and tools.
Familiarity with network security, firewalls, antivirus, and intrusion detection systems.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information responsibly.
Eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-moving start-up environment.
Writing policies and SOPs
Ability to communicate technical topics in a non-technical manner.
Ability to work cross functionally with other departments to accomplish tasks.
CompTIA Security+ (or similar)
Preferred Qualifications
Previous internship or project experience in IT or cybersecurity.
Exposure to security frameworks or standards (e.g., NIST, ISO/IEC 27001).
Hands-on experience with security tools (Wireshark, Nessus, Metasploit, etc.).
Knowledge of scripting or programming languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
Enthusiasm for working in a collaborative, innovative team setting.
This internship is unpaid, designed for educational purposes, and complies with FLSA regulations. It offers valuable exposure to Cyber Security helping to build a strong foundation for a career in IT or as a Security Analyst.
