JOB SUMMARY The Communications & Events Coordinator executes Habitat for Humanity of Minnesota’s communication and event activities. This role is a true communications generalist, charged with co-creating and implementing the organization’s communications strategy inclusive of content creation, digital engagement, storytelling, design and graphics support, and media and stakeholder engagement. The role also handles all event logistics and serves as a key liaison for the biennial Habitat for Humanity Midwest Regional Conference. This is a highly execution-focused role that works closely with department leadership and external contractors to implement communications strategies and deliver successful events. Reporting Relationships The Events & Communications Coordinator reports to the Deputy Executive Director and has no direct reports. Salary and Benefits Habitat Minnesota offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes vacation and sick leave, 401K match, flexible work schedule, health and dental benefits, and others. The salary for this position is $60,000 - $65,000. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES Communications (50%) Content Creation & Communications Execution • Create and implement a strategic communications plan that articulates Habitat for Humanity's mission and the Habitat brand to all relevant stakeholders. • Create and publish content across multiple communication channels (email, blogs, social media, website, print). • Draft newsletters, marketing materials, event communications, and campaign content. • Ensure organizational consistency with organizational brand voice and messaging. • Design basic graphics using Canva or similar tools. • Support development of reports and publications (e.g., annual report) and other departmental communications needs throughout the year. • Create and distribute campaign-related communications and promotional materials, coordinating timelines and reporting campaign success. Digital Platforms & Engagement • Manage day-to-day updates to website, email platform, and social media accounts. • Schedule and post social media content; monitor and respond to engagement. • Maintain email lists and assist with audience and stakeholder segmentation. • Track basic performance metrics (open rates, engagement, reach), report insights, and make adjustments to strategy based on these insights. • Support implementation of content calendars in partnership with department leaders. Media & External Communications Support • Draft press releases, media advisories, and other external communications materials. • Monitor media coverage and maintain archives. • Support leadership in preparing communications as needed. • Work in partnership with any external communications or events management contractors to implement related strategies. Events Coordination and Logistics (50%) • Manage event logistics including venue scouting, AV needs, catering, transportation, registration systems, and communication. • Represent Habitat Minnesota at public-facing events, including tabling and community outreach. • Support development and execution of event timelines and run-of-show documents. • Manage registration systems, guest lists, and check-in processes. • Coordinate vendors, volunteers, and event-day staffing. • Lead on-site support to ensure smooth event execution. • Coordinate and/or create event materials such as programs, signage, and presentations. • Capture event content (photos/video) or coordinate with photographers/ videographers. • Assist with post-event follow-up and documentation. Midwest Regional Conference Coordination and Logistics • Lead planning logistics for the regional conference, including registration systems, materials, vendor coordination, attendee coordination, and planning committee facilitation. • Partner with Habitat International and other external partners and aid the Development Director in supporting sponsors and exhibitors. • Design visual content (programs, signage, etc.), manage event communications, and provide or coordinate photography and social media coverage. • Support the Education & Research Manager with project management and content development for conference programming and training events. Internal Coordination & Project Support • Support the execution of trainings, webinars, leadership development events, orientations, and other organizational events as needed. • Draft and distribute the biweekly affiliate newsletter and analyze performance metrics. • Collaborate with internal teams to gather content for public storytelling and ensure message alignment. • Maintain organized file systems for communications assets (photos, templates, documents). • Track multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. QUALIFICATIONS Required • 2–4 years of experience in communications, marketing, events, project management or related fields • Strong writing and editing skills • Excellent organizational and time management abilities • Experience with social media platforms and email marketing tools like Sendible and EveryAction • Basic graphic design skills (Canva or similar) • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team • Excellent written and verbal communication skills Preferred • Experience supporting nonprofit events or fundraising initiatives • Familiarity with website CMS platforms (WordPress, Squarespace, etc.) • Familiarity with project management software like Monday.com • Photography, video, or visual storytelling experience • Technologically savvy; leverages technology and embraces continuous improvement Core Competencies Habitat Minnesota seeks team members who demonstrate core competencies in their work. Working Environment Habitat Minnesota is a mission-oriented nonprofit dedicated to building a world where everyone has a safe, stable and affordable place to call home. Habitat Minnesota business hours are between 9:00 am – 5:00 pm; staff schedules vary based on working preference and demands of the position. Position may work some evenings to meet organizational needs. The regular work schedule supports hybrid work with Mondays and Wednesdays in-office; internal meetings are purposefully scheduled these days to maximize collaboration. For the initial onboarding period, in-office days are required at least three days per week to foster a supportive onboarding environment.
